Seder Nigunim at Tomchei Temimim Prepares Talmidim for Yom Kippur

In the days leading up to Yom Kippur, the talmidim of Tomchei Temimim immersed themselves not only in learning the halachos, tefilos, and minhagim of the Yomim Noraim, but also in the unique Nigunim connected to this auspicious time. Alongside their studies and Yom Tov preparations — including crafts and activities — the boys were inspired through niggunim.

To conclude the Aseres Yemei Teshuva, Tomchei Temimim hosted a special Seder Nigunim, led by the renowned Rabbi Shmuly Hurwitz, whose heartfelt singing uplifted the room. He was accompanied by Hatomim Yosef Adelist.

The atmosphere was electric — the boys were fully engaged, their voices strong, and their spirits lifted. Most importantly, the Seder Nigunim left the talmidim of Tomchei Temimim inspired and prepared to enter Yom Kippur with the proper kavana and heart.

  • Hands-On Shofar Workshop at Lubavitcher Yeshiva

Just ahead of the Yomim Nora’im, the talmidim of Lubavitcher Yeshiva participated in a unique shofar factory workshop, led by Rabbi Michoel Albakerk of Tzivos Hashem.

The interactive workshop brought the mitzvah of shofar to life, as Rabbi Albakerk began by displaying a wide variety of animal horns. The boys learned the differences between kosher and non-kosher shofar, as well as the halachos that determine whether a horn can be used for the mitzvah of tekias shofar on Rosh Hashanah.

The highlight of the program was when the boys rolled up their sleeves and got to work crafting their very own shofar. Under Rabbi Albakerk’s guidance, they sanded, polished, and drilled their horns, turning them into beautiful, functional instruments they were proud to take home.

“It was amazing to see how the shofar is actually made and to do it ourselves,” said one excited talmid in Kita Zayin. “Now I understand much more about this mitzvah.”

Rabbi Albakerk emphasized the deeper meaning behind the hands-on experience: “When a child creates something with their own hands, especially something connected to a mitzvah, it leaves a lasting impression. That’s the power of experiential chinuch.”

As Rosh Hashanah approaches, the talmidim of Lubavitcher Yeshiva will enter the Yom Tov with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the mitzvah of shofar—along with a unique, handmade shofar of their own.

  • First Day at Lubavitcher Yeshiva

    First Day at Lubavitcher Yeshiva

Today marked the first day for the new shnas halimudim for the talmidim of Tomchei Temimim, and the excitement was felt in every corner of the building. As the boys approached the Yeshiva, lively music filled the air with the classic song “איינמאל א תמים, אלעמאל א תמים.” Two giant blow-up menchies stood proudly at the entrance, creating a festive and welcoming scene.

Each talmid received a Tomchei Temimim yarmulke and a fresh new notebook, setting the tone for a year of growth and learning. With beaming faces, the talmidim made their way to their designated locations.

At the opening assembly, Rabbi Y. Simpson, Menahel, warmly welcomed the boys, encouraging them to dedicate themselves to limud haTorah and to strive to make the Rebbe proud. Rabbi Scharf, Menahel of the Mechina division, addressed the older boys with warmth and passion. He reminded them that entering the Mechina years brings new responsibility, and spoke of the privilege of learning in Tomchei Temimim — the Yeshiva the Rebbeim held to the highest standard. He encouraged each talmid to set goals in limud haTorah, strengthen his connection to the Rebbe, and remember that a Tomim’s conduct serves as a living example for others.

Following his remarks, Rabbi Aron, Menahel of Kitos Daled–Vov, and Rabbi Turk, Menahel of Kitos Alef–Gimmel, each inspired their talmidim by highlighting the unique zechus they carry: to be called a Tomim, a distinction reserved exclusively for the talmidim of Tomchei Temimim.

After the assembly, the talmidim entered classrooms that had been freshly painted, with polished floors and neatly arranged desks. Seforim were set out on every desk, ready for the talmidim. Their devoted mechanchim welcomed them, each room had an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation for the year ahead

With the Rebbes Brochos the new year at Tomchei Temimim will be filled with growth, accomplishment, and true nachas from our talmidim.
