It is a Minhag give a donation to the Yeshiva for a newborn, as if to enroll him in Yeshiva the moment he is born.
Please note that while this Minhag serves a great Zechus for the newborn, this does not guarantee a space for the child in the Yeshiva and the regular enrollment process is still neccesary when the child reaches preschool age.
